Key takeaways
- Section 2.1 of your state's manual holds the seven-step inspection method.
- The model manual is copyrighted by AAMVA and licensed to state licensing agencies only.
- Use your own state's version — it is the one your skills test was written against.
Why we link and do not host
Almost everything in this library is a federal work, which means it is in the public domain and we could serve you a copy. This one is not. The model Commercial Driver License Manual carries a 2005 AAMVA copyright, and reproduction is licensed to state driver licensing agencies only.
So we point at it instead. Go to your own state's driver licensing agency — the DMV, DPS or equivalent — and find the commercial driver manual there. That version is the one your state tested you against, and it is the one that reflects any state-specific requirement.
What is in section 2.1
The seven-step inspection sequence, plus the in-cab and air-brake checks that the skills test requires you to perform aloud. Our own pre-trip card follows that order without reproducing the text, and cites the regulation behind each item.
